Mar\u00eda Corral<\/h2>\n

Independent curator, art critic and artistic consultant, born in Madrid. Mar\u00eda de Corral is the director of the Colecci\u00f3n Asociaci\u00f3n Arte Contempor\u00e1neo (Museo Patio Herreriano, Valladolid) and she co-manages Expo Actual. Previously, she was the director of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sof\u00eda (1991-94), and she led the advisory committee for the collections of the Fundaci\u00f3n Telef\u00f3nica (2003-06). She was the director of Fine Arts for the Fundaci\u00f3n \u201dla Caixa\u201d (1981-91) and oversaw their contemporary art collection until 2002. She curated the Spanish Pavilion at the Venice Biennale (1988), and was the director of the 51st Venice Biennale (2005). She also curated the Portuguese Pavilion at the 2015 Venice Biennale. Furthermore, she curated the Pontevedra Biennale in 2000 and 2002, was a senior curator at the Dallas Museum of Art (2005-08) and was the president of EUROPAN, the Europe-wide architecture competition (1992-94). She has curated over a hundred exhibitions, both in Spain and internationally. Mar\u00eda de Corral is a member of the board of trustees at the Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza. She sits on the Reina Sof\u00eda\u2019s scientific committee, and forms part of the advisory committees at the Rooseum Center in Malm\u00f6, the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Wexner Center for the Arts in Minneapolis and the Mus\u00e9e du Luxembourg. She has been granted Spain\u2019s Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts, and she is an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters in France. Other prizes include the Gold Medal from the C\u00edrculo de Bellas Artes; a Leo Award from Independent Curators International, 1992; the Art Cologne prize, 1994; the Koin\u00e9 Prize for Professional Artistic Career from Fondazione Frate Sole, Verona; and the Order of the Second of May, as awarded by the Comunidad de Madrid.<\/p>\n
