A sculpture by Nora Aurrekoetxea, a participant of ART Situacions III, is among the works acquired by the Reina Sofía Museum and the Ministry of Culture within the framework of ARCO 2024

In an effort to support new creative generations and foster a more inclusive environment in the art world, the Reina Sofía Museum and the Ministry of Culture have made a significant investment of over 553,000 euros in acquiring 30 works from 22 artists, 17 of whom are women. These works, all from ARCO 2024, reflect the commitment of both institutions to enrich their collection with pieces that represent innovation and diversity in contemporary art. Among the acquisitions is the work of Nora Aurrekoetxea, “Kurba (ballena beso baile),” which symbolizes a deep exploration of contemporary themes through sculpture.

This approach shows the Reina Sofía Museum’s clear intention to increase the presence of women in future collection presentations, emphasizing the importance of building an artistic legacy that fully embraces diversity and equality.

The inclusion of “Kurba (ballena beso baile)” in the collection not only highlights the originality and relevance of Aurrekoetxea’s artistic proposals, a participant of ART Situacions III, but also marks a significant step towards consolidating an artistic space that values and promotes a wide variety of perspectives and experiences. With these acquisitions from ARCO 2024, the Reina Sofía Museum and the Ministry of Culture demonstrate their strong commitment to supporting new creative generations and creating a more inclusive and representative artistic landscape.
