ESPAÑA, ITALIA
Pursuing the goal of being an active subject in the support of emerging contemporary art, ART Situacions is a private initiative of patronage based in Spain, founded by Pilar Forcada and Marcel Pascual, that constantly encourages artistic creation. After having worked in 2013 on a survey around the Spanish and Portuguese art scene, this years’ edition focuses on an in depth investigation on the emerging contemporary art practices present in Spain and Italy today.
A committee, composed by Maria de Corral, Ilaria Gianni, Lorena Martínez de Corral and Vicente Todolì, was nominated to carry out a detailed research on the emerging panorama of artists active in the two countries. After a broad investigation and sessions of discussion, the committee chose by consensus the works of Ludovica Carbotta, Gabriele De Santis, Miren Doiz, Anna Franceschini, José Guerrero, Rubén Guerrero, Diego Marcon, Alek O., Teresa Solar, Anna Talens, which according to all, represented an incisive overview of the younger generations in Spain and Italy today, and conveyed, through different nuances and forms a portrait of the present time.
ART Situacions II, which has been touring between the Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Villa Croce, Genova, the Museo di Arte Contemporanea di Roma (MACRO), and now at Matadero Madrid, intends to be a stimulating multifaceted landscape offering a privileged point of view on some of the most well structured, poetic and coherent practices operating today. The show seems to act as a polyphonic score, recounting through different narratives, articulate interpretations of the political, the cultural, the social, and the personal.

From 19 February to 13 May 2016, the second edition of the ART Situacions exhibition, curated by María de Corral, Ilaria Gianni, Lorena Martínez de Corral and Vicent Todolí, promoted by Matadero Madrid and organised by ART Situacions under the direction of Pilar Forcada, sets up home in the Nave 16 space at Matadero Madrid.
ART Situacions, the result of a Spanish private patronage initiative founded by collectors Pilar Forcada and Marcel Pascual, which promotes and supports emerging contemporary art through private patronage, provides, in each exhibition, an exploration into the current art scene in a given country in juxtaposition with that in Spain. Portugal was featured as the subject of study in 2013, with the fledgling Italian art scene taking the spotlight this time round for the exhibition’s second edition.
ART Situacions II, which takes place at the Matadero Madrid, delves into the artistic poetry and expression currently present in Italian and Spanish visual arts, featuring the work of Italian artists Ludovica Carbotta, Gabriele de Santis, Anna Franceschini, Diego Marcon and Alek O., along with that of Spanish artists Miren Doiz, José Guerrero, Rubén Guerrero, Teresa Solar Abboud and Anna Talens, all of which were selected by unanimous agreement after extensive analysis and a number of discussion sessions involving the expert committee formed by María de Corral, Ilaria Gianni, Lorena Martínez de Corral and Vicent Todolí.
The groups of artists selected represent an incisive synopsis of the young generations of creators working in both countries today, whose explorations transmit, through a diverse range of nuances and forms, an accurate portrayal of the modern age.
The exhibition aims to offer a stimulating and kaleidoscopic expedition, providing a privileged insight into some of the more structured, evocative and cohesive practices of this particular moment in history, at the same time as transmitting different interpretations commenting on the age in which we live.
ART Situacions II comes to Madrid with the aim of presenting a stimulating, multifaceted landscape that offers a penetrating view of some of the most developed, poetic and coherent practices of the present day. The exhibition appears to act as a polyphonic score, reflecting, through a variety of stories and eloquent interpretations, that which is political, cultural, social and personal.
After opening at the Villa Croce Museum of Contemporary Art in Genoa (from 18 September 2015 to 15 November 2015) and moving on to the MACRO, Rome’s Museum of Contemporary Art, (27 November 2015 to 31 January 2016), the ART Situacions II touring exhibition is now showing at the Matadero Madrid (from 19 February to May 13th 2016).
Aware that the system of values on which our society is based is currently in a state of complete redefinition, ART Situacions considers culture, and art in particular, to be an effective tool for fine-tuning the criteria that will move us forward towards change, a journey that highlights the uncertainties to which we, as human beings, are subjected. In response to the lack of opportunities with which the young generations of today are confronted, ART Situacions seeks to support and promote active explorations in the area of contemporary art and bring them to a wider audience.
The focus of ART Situacions is not on reflecting the tastes of the patrons behind the initiative, nor on showcasing any particular theme or artistic discipline, but on presenting a possible perspective which represents the art of today, exploring some of the most interesting and coherent dialogues.
