Information
Yoan has shown his work in various exhibitions, notably at 14N61W for the shows Quand le soleil s’éteint, 2018 and À deux pas du silence, 2021(Martinique), or at Frac Pays de La Loire, Helter Skelter, une copie sans modèle, 2016 (France) and recently at the Biennale of Coimbra (Portugal) or at CAC Les Capucins, Qui pourra nous emmener près du soleil (France). He is part of the exhibition Dust specks on the sea – Contemporary sculpture in the french Caribbean and Haïti since 2018. It has been shown in several place in USA and in France.
He has been an advisor to Canadian choreographer Dana Michel since 2016 and performs both alone like at La Station and Triangle France in 2020 or Palais de Tokyo in 2018
Sometimes Curator he was invited to think of a collective exhibition with the works of the Frac collections and to produce pieces in dialogue, the exhibition « Motifs, raisons d’agir » has been shown in Espace François Mitterand at Guiguamp in 2022
Collaboration is an important side of his work and he did several projects like « Mobilier Peint » with Flora Moscovici, « Dilva » for the 2020 Manifesta in Marseille with Io Burgard, « Slash Universe » with Dana Michel or the duo show « Cuerpo, Espacio y Todo lo que Rodea (Body, Space and Everything that Surrounds) » with Nora Maite Nieves at Embajada (Puerto Rico)

Yoan Sorin’s practice varies according to the mythologies he brings up to date in his drawings, installations, paintings, and performances. In addition to a multitude of logbook-like sketchbooks which he fills one after the other, exercising his caustic and sometimes acerbic vision, Yoan Sorin combines note-taking with his proliferating creation of objects, which can be understood as rebuses or aphorisms, or as instances in which representations collude.
The artist, who entitled one of his first exhibitions Just do it, blends and mixes textures following the logic of exploded and baroque assemblages made up of collages and mirror effects on backdrops that reference African-American history, hip hop, branding, streetwear, and the histories of art and sports.
Midway between outsider art, statuary aesthetics and cheap junk, Yoan Sorin’s work is related on a nomadic level to domestic objects and ornaments in its profuse use of composite perspectives, colour blocks, exotic fabrics, and fluorescent textures.
